Red Gate Residency:

                             Well July and August were flat out with my residency at the Red Gate Residency in Beijing. I met many wonderful and creative people from all over the world. I saw a lot of what the region has to offer not only in temples, Great Walls and many many art spaces and galleries I was blown away at the value and the taste of the local food and beer.

 

I had two studio exhibitions while there and was invited to be part of the Beijing Art Expo in October, sponsored by the Chinese Government. A great honour. While there I met gallery owners from Australia with two galleries showing an interest in the work I was doing and planning while in Beijing. As a delightful consequence of these meetings I have been invited by Buratti Fine Art Gallery in North Fremantle WA to have an exhibition there in 2015. Also in July my painting, Smart Ed's One Stop Shop Karratha, was selected as finalist for the Cossack Art Prize here in WA. The judges awarded my painting a "Highly Commended" which was a wonderful surprise. AS my good friend, artist Graeme Balchin info@graemebalchin.com reminded me on hearing the news he said, "All that means mate is you were one off the money!" So wise. Looking forward to a big 2015 art wise.
